Habitat for Humanity

Habitat is very dear to me. I was invited to a new home dedication years ago and it sucked me in. What people don’t seem to understand is that Habitat does not “giveaway” free homes. These individuals and families work their tails off for the opportunity to OWN their own home. After a long application/interview process, they MUST work 350 sweat equity hours…on their home or other homes, attend mandatory education classes on home maintenance, finance, etc…AND save $750 toward their closing costs. At the end of all that, they are “given” and “INTEREST FREE” mortgage. That’s “the deal”…and that’s huge! This process start-finish can take 1-2 years, so you must be committed to the program. And at the end…a new beginning. If you’ve never attended a dedication, please do. YOU will be changed.
